Bree Smith

Since the dawn of time, art has existed as a means for one to express their feelings, their hopes and their dreams. For local artist Bree Smith, art serves as a form of catharsis. While our world’s current climate may be posing some tough times, Smith remains hopeful for the future of Earth and beyond.Bree has been working as an artist for almost five years. Some of her favorite tools include acrylic paint, watercolor and mixed media collage work and oil pastels.“There is a lot of great talent here in Dallas,” Smith says, but one of the challenges of being an artist in this city is trying to find your own individual niche. There are so many opportunities here and they are all going for similar opportunities.”Smith, however, has managed to find her niche. Her work often imagines a galaxy through an optimistic lens.“I’m currently exploring futuristic themes,” Smith says. “Sometimes, that involves including elements of outer space and other planets. I started including female astronauts and incorporating other planets. I imagine how people would live their lives on other planets, say, 200 years from now. I try to imagine the future more on the positive side and less on the apocalyptic side. I try to use bright colors to evoke more feelings of joy and hope, and not so much doom.”When she’s not painting, Smith enjoys drinking cocktails, especially those blended with Kruto Vodka.“I love Kruto Vodka because it’s very smooth and tastes great in a Moscow mule,” Smith says. “And I also love that they’re local.”Check out Bree Smith’s art at breesmith.com and be sure to follow her at @breesmithart
